Nepali literature has made its own journey throughout time. The contemporary writers of today have earned recognition from their recommendable work inside and out of Nepal. The following seven books are the books any Nepali must have to read once on their life.

5, Palpasha Cafe

Palpasa Cafe is a novel by Nepali author Narayan Wagle. It tells the story of an artist, Drishya, during the height of the Nepalese Civil War. The novel is partly a love story of Drishya and the first generation American Nepali, Palpasa, who has returned to the land of her parents after 9/11. It is often called an anti-war novel, and describes the effects of the civil war on the Nepali countryside that Drishya travels to.

Radha represents an example of an outstanding nepali novel. This Novel is written by Krishna Dharabasi. It plots the story of ancient epic Mahabharat with some changes that are not included in that epic. However the character Radha is very famous for the love relationship with Krishna in Hindu religion, she has been left far behind in the story of Mahabharat.

Narendra Dai is a novel by B.P. Koirala published in the year 1970. Most of his writings feature Nepalese women as the protagonists and one can read about their personal experiences. This novel is one of such books by him.

2, Shiris Ko Phool
Shiris Ko Phool is a novel written by prominent Nepali writer Parijat and also published in English language as "The Blue Mimosa".The novel is highly acclaimed in Nepali literature and has also been adapted in the literature curriculum of some colleges in some English speaking countries.

1, Muna Madan

Muna Madan describes the life of a man (Madan) who leaves his wife (Muna) and goes to Lhasa to make money, and while returning he becomes sick on the way. His friends leave him on the road and come back home saying he has died. The story also shows the life of a poor woman who suffered much without her husband and later dies because of grief. Finally he is rescued by a man who is considered to be of lower caste in Nepal. That is why it is said that a man is said to be great not by caste or race but by a heart full of love and humanity.
